FERPA Compliance

Last updated: March 8, 2026

What is FERPA?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It applies to all schools that receive funds from the U.S. Department of Education.

How Jaraty Complies with FERPA

Jaraty is designed from the ground up to avoid handling student education records:

  • No student accounts: Students never create accounts, log in, or provide identifying information to use Jaraty tools.
  • No education records: Jaraty does not access, store, or manage student education records as defined by FERPA.
  • No persistent student data: Any student input (poll responses, word cloud entries, etc.) is ephemeral, anonymous, and not linked to any student identity.
  • No directory information: Jaraty does not collect student names, IDs, addresses, or any other directory information.

Teacher and Administrator Use

Some Jaraty tools designed for educators (such as IEP goal builders or behavior tracking) may involve educators entering student-related data. In these cases:

  • Data is processed locally or within the educator's session
  • Jaraty does not transmit this data to external servers for storage
  • Educators are responsible for handling student information in compliance with their district's FERPA policies

School District Integration

Because Jaraty does not collect or store student personally identifiable information (PII), it can be used in school environments without requiring a Data Privacy Agreement (DPA) in most cases. However, school districts should evaluate their own policies and consult with their data privacy officer as needed.
